Dr. Yaruss's research is aimed at improving the diagnosis and treatment of people who stutter through assessment of current clinical practices and documentation of treatment outcomes. Specific aspects of this research program include studies designed to examine the linguistic and motoric factors that influence the development of stuttering in young children. He teaches classes on stuttering and on counseling individuals with communication disorders . He conducts workshops nationwide to train clinicians and to help them feel more comfortable with their ability to work with people who stutter.

Kristin Pelczarski is currently a doctoral student in the department of Communication Science and Disorders at the University of Pittsburgh. She received her undergraduate degree from George Washington University and completed her master's program at the University of Pittsburgh. Her research interests include motoric and linguistic factors involved in stuttering. Kristin also provides clinical service to preschool, school-age, and adolescent children who stutter and is a member of the National Stuttering Association, and the American Speech-Language-Hearing Association's Special Interest Division 4: Fluency Disorders.
